1 Hotels Latest Residential Development: Elounda Hills
Greece is renowned as a premier yachting destination in the Mediterranean, offering numerous luxury islands for yacht parking, water exploration, and sunbathing. While Mykonos and Santorini are well-known, the island of Crete, Greece's largest and most southern island, also stands out with its rich history and diverse recreational activities, including water sports, beach clubs, hiking, and even snow skiing.
On Crete’s northeast coast, the new luxury development Elounda Hills has become a magnet for affluent buyers seeking vacation homes. This eco-friendly resort is the first branded residential offering on the island, covering 138 acres and featuring a soon-to-open 1 Hotels facility with 123 rooms, 257 branded residences, a 14-key boutique hotel, two beach clubs, a watersports center, clubs for kids and teens, a retail piazza, over a dozen restaurants and bars, and a marina managed by Camper and Nicholsons.

The villas at Elounda Hills come in various sizes, with the largest waterfront homes offering up to eight bedrooms. The Mirabello Villas, smaller residences with two to five bedrooms, are designed by Greek firms Elastic and Makridis Associates in collaboration with Italian design firm D73. All villas will be built utilizing local and sustainable materials like stone and wood.
The highlight of the Mirabello Villas is a $5.5 million home, the most expensive of the 22 Mirabello Villas available. Currently under construction, this 5,264-square-foot villa will feature four bedrooms, five bathrooms, floor-to-ceiling windows, contemporary furnishings, clean lines, high ceilings, and a 2,529-square-foot private terrace with stone arches, an infinity pool, a landscaped garden, and private parking with an EV charger.
One of the significant attractions for buyers is the state-of-the-art marina, which can accommodate yachts ranging from six to 90 meters, including five berths for superyachts. Several buyers have already secured permanent berths alongside their residences, offering constant views over the marina from the villa.
Elounda Hills emphasizes health, wellbeing, and environmental responsibility, offering services such as in-home sage ceremonies, private chefs, juicing specialists, and cuisine from local suppliers. The development is set to open in 2026.
Fondation Louis Vuitton Unveils “The Collection: A Sports Meeting”
Fondation Louis Vuitton has unveiled a captivating exhibition, "The Collection: A Sports Meeting," intertwining art and athletics to coincide with the fervor of the Olympic Games. This innovative showcase draws from the museum’s renowned collection, featuring works by luminaries such as Andy Warhol, Jean-Michel Basquiat, and Omar Victor Diop, among others.
Central to the exhibition is Andreas Gursky’s "Engadin" (1995), a monumental portrayal of cross-country skiers navigating the Swiss Alps, symbolizing perseverance against nature's grandeur. Omar Victor Diop's "Jean-Baptiste Belley" (2014) challenges historical narratives through a reinterpretation of a painting by Anne-Louis Girodet de Roussy-Trioson, examining themes of race and identity in the context of football and societal integration.

Highlighting the commercialization of sports, "Olympic Rings" (1985) by Warhol and Basquiat offers a poignant commentary, juxtaposing African imagery with iconic Olympic symbols. This collaborative artwork critiques the commodification of athleticism while celebrating artistic partnership.

The exhibition at Fondation Louis Vuitton serves as a cultural ode to athleticism and artistic expression, offering visitors a profound exploration of sports through various mediums, including painting, photography, and installations. It invites contemplation on the intersection of sports, culture, and societal issues, resonating with global audiences during the Olympic season.
Located in Paris, the exhibition runs until September 9, 2024, providing a unique opportunity to engage with the works of art that provoke thought and reflection on the evolving landscapes of sports and contemporary society.

Peter Hawkings Departs Tom Ford Less Than One Year After Joining
Peter Hawkings, creative director at Tom Ford for less than a year, is stepping down from his role, marking a swift change for the iconic fashion label. Hawkings, who succeeded the brand’s namesake founder in April last year, will oversee the Spring 2025 collection's reveal in a showroom format before his departure. Tom Ford executives are preparing to announce his successor imminently.

Guillaume Jesel, president and CEO of Tom Ford and luxury business development at The Estée Lauder Companies, acknowledged Hawkings' contributions, stating, "I would like to express my gratitude to Peter for his exceptional contributions to Tom Ford from the very beginning."
Reflecting on Hawkings' tenure, Lelio Gavazza, CEO of Tom Ford Fashion under Ermenegildo Zegna Group, highlighted his role in the brand's early development phase since its acquisition. Hawkings, previously senior vice president of menswear, was credited by Tom Ford himself for his instrumental role in the brand's success over the last 25 years.
Tom Ford's departure from his eponymous label in 2023, following its acquisition by Estée Lauder, signaled a new chapter for the brand under Zegna Group's stewardship. With a strategic focus on expanding womenswear, which contributed significantly to the label's revenue in 2023, Hawkings' successor is expected to navigate this growth trajectory, possibly emphasizing menswear expertise.
As Hawkings moves on from Tom Ford, his departure prompts reflections on the brand's evolution and future direction. The swift transition underscores the dynamic nature of luxury fashion leadership and the ongoing strategic shifts within the industry.
